Break-Up Email

A short, no-pressure last email that closes the loop with a prospect who has gone quiet and often gets a reply.

The break-up email is the last message in a sequence to a prospect who has gone silent. It works by removing pressure instead of adding it: you offer to stop, which often prompts the reply that all the chasing emails did not. The subject line does most of the work, and the three-reasons line makes it easy to answer honestly.

Send it only after a few genuine touches, and mean it: if they say close the file, close it. It works because it gives the buyer an easy, face-saving exit, and loss aversion (Kahneman and Tversky, 1979) means some will realise they do not actually want to lose the option and re-engage. It backfires if you use it as a guilt trip, or if you send the same “final” email repeatedly, which makes the break-up a lie.

There is no single documented originator; the break-up email is standard modern sales-cadence practice.
