LinkedIn Connection Message
A short connection note that gives a real reason to connect without pitching in the first message.
The mistake with LinkedIn connection notes is pitching in the request itself, which gets ignored or reported. This one gives a genuine, specific reason to connect and openly says there is no pitch, which lowers the guard. The {{SpecificDetail}} has to be real, something you actually read, or the whole thing reads as a mail-merge.
Send it only when you have something true to reference. It works because it treats the connection as a relationship, not a lead capture, and because naming a specific detail proves you paid attention. It backfires the moment it feels templated or the “no pitch” line is followed a day later by a pitch, which trains the person to distrust you.
There is no single documented originator; this reflects standard social-selling practice. The specificity that makes it work is the same driver behind the liking principle (Cialdini, Influence, 1984).
