Handling "I Need to Think About It"

Treat the stall as a hidden objection and surface the real concern before the conversation goes cold.

I need to think about it

“I need to think about it” is rarely about thinking. It usually hides a specific unresolved concern: price, a competing option, or someone else they need to consult. If you accept it at face value the deal goes quiet and dies. The job is to surface the real thing while you still have them.

Acknowledge, then narrow: “Of course, it’s a real decision. Just so I know I’ve covered everything, what’s the part you want to think through most, the price or the fit?” Naming likely candidates makes it easy for them to admit the actual blocker. If they genuinely need time, agree a specific next contact instead of leaving it open.

It works because most stalls are one concrete worry wearing a polite phrase. The mistake is pushing for a yes anyway; that confirms you were not listening. This is a common sales-floor pattern with no single documented originator.
